Energy System Comparison Tool

To provide Dutch households with insight into the costs and benefits of alternative energy systems for natural gas. That is the reason why Witteveen+Bos has developed the Energy System Comparison Tool (ESCT). This new online tool can be used immediately by municipalities and their residents. But also by installation contractors when providing advice on energy systems.

A resource for households

The heat transition process is having an impact on homes and people’s wallets. The costs and benefits of alternative heating technologies, such as a heat network or (hybrid) heat pump, vary widely and are difficult to compare. This can be due to significant variations or increases in energy prices.

Municipalities can now use the Energy System Comparison Tool to provide residents with a handy resource to help them choose a suitable sustainable heating technology, in the context of district implementation plans, for example. The ESCT provides transparency and enables users to compare important decision-making factors such as investments, energy costs and payback period of, among other things, (hybrid) heat pumps, gas boilers and heat networks.

User-friendly and interactive

After providing a number of basic details about the house, home owners are given a clear overview of the costs and benefits of the various energy systems. The ESCT uses the basic details, such as the year of construction, energy consumption and type of house, to provide tailor-made advice.

The tool also works interactively so that home owners can quickly and easily adjust the important parameters themselves, such as the level of energy prices, insulation and system costs and energy consumption. This provides transparency into how changing conditions affect the costs and benefits of the various heating technologies.

Also for installation contractors

Installation contractors can also benefit from the Energy System Comparison Tool when providing advice to clients and residents. Quick and easy insight into the costs and benefits of systems provides more scope to discuss the preconditions of different energy systems. Greater insight into the preconditions also contributes to helping make the right decisions: choosing the energy system that best suits the specific resident, type of house or residential area.

Available in subscription form

The ESCT has been developed as an online tool and can therefore be easily integrated into existing websites. There is also a free demo version available for interested municipalities and installation contractors. Use of the tool is linked to a tailor-made subscription based on the requirements and duration of use.
